What is the Alfjr Kids’ Corner?

The Alfjr Kids’ Corner is a free online magazine for Muslim children. Every visit brings a new du‘a, an Arabic word, a Tajweed tip, a short Prophet story, a good-manners challenge, a memorization goal and a fun quiz — short, joyful learning that families can enjoy together at home.

Du‘a of the Week

A short du‘a for seeking knowledge

رَبِّ زِدْنِي عِلْمًا

Rabbi zidnī ‘ilmā

“My Lord, increase me in knowledge.” — Qur’an, Surah Taha (20:114)

Teach your child to whisper this beautiful du‘a before every lesson or before opening a book. It is one of the shortest du‘as in the Qur’an, so even little ones can memorize it in a single day — and it reminds us that all knowledge is a gift from Allah.

Arabic Word of the Week

نُور — Noor (Light)

نُور

Noor means “light”. It is also connected to one of the beautiful names of Allah, An-Noor — the Light of the heavens and the earth.

Mini activity: Walk around your home with your child and find three things that give light — a lamp, the sun through a window, a torch — and say the word “noor” together each time. Arabic becomes play, not homework.

Tajweed Tip

Give every Madd two gentle counts

When you see a long vowel — the alif in “qaala”, the waw in “nuun”, or the yaa in “fiihi” — stretch it for two gentle beats, like counting “one, two” in your heart. Not too short, not too long.

This single habit makes a child’s recitation calmer and more beautiful, and it is one of the first rules our teachers practise in every live Tajweed class.

Story Corner

The smile that is charity

Our beloved Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us something wonderful: that even smiling at your brother or sister is a sadaqah — a charity that Allah rewards (narrated in Jami‘ at-Tirmidhi).

Ask your child: who can you smile at today? A tired parent, a new classmate, a grandparent on a video call. A smile costs nothing, yet in Islam it is treasure — the kind of gentle, joyful faith we nurture at Alfjr Academy.

Good Manners — Akhlaq

Bismillah before, Alhamdulillah after

Two tiny words can fill a child’s whole day with the remembrance of Allah: saying Bismillah before eating, drinking or starting anything, and Alhamdulillah after finishing.

This week’s challenge: greet three people with “As-salamu ‘alaykum” today, and say Bismillah before every meal. Small habits, repeated with love, grow into strong character.

Memorization Challenge

Memorize Surah Al-Ikhlas in 7 days

Qul huwa Allahu ahad · Allahu as-samad · lam yalid wa lam yulad · wa lam yakun lahu kufuwan ahad

“Say, He is Allah, the One; Allah, the Eternal Refuge; He neither begets nor is born; nor is there to Him any equivalent.”

  • Days 1–2: Listen and repeat ayah 1 ten times a day.
  • Day 3: Add ayah 2.
  • Day 4: Add ayah 3.
  • Day 5: Add ayah 4.
  • Day 6: Recite all four ayat from memory with a parent.
  • Day 7: Recite it in salah — and celebrate together!
Brain Teaser

Quick quiz: test what you know

1. How many letters are in the Arabic alphabet?

2. What is the first Surah of the Qur’an?

3. Which Arabic word means “light”?

Family Activity

Make a Du‘a Jar

Decorate an empty jar together. Each evening, every child writes one short du‘a or one good deed from their day on a small paper and drops it in. On Fridays, read them aloud as a family.

It is a simple, screen-free way to make du‘a a happy habit — and to see how much good your family does in just one week, in sha’ Allah.
